Four More APC Govs To Get Nyako Treatment, Saraki Alleges

Bukola-Saraki-The Senator representing Kwara Central, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has condemned Tuesday’s impeachment of Adamawa State Governor, Rear Admiral Murtala Nyako (retd) by the State House of Assembly.
Saraki, who is a two-time governor of Kwara State, told journalists in Abuja that Nyako’s sack was unfortunate. He also alleged that four other All Progressives Congress, APC, governors have been penciled down for similar treatment by the Federal Government.
He said, “It is very unfortunate and I think we are seven months to the end of the tenure. We all need to look at the bigger picture, look at the stability of our democracy.
“After Adamawa, I think Nasarawa state governor is being served with impeachment notice and three other states are going to be served”.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, added that “the bigger issue in this country now is the issue of security, and poverty.  Some of the issues raised against the Adamawa State Governor can also apply anywhere and we need to be mature with our democracy”.
He warned that “The issue of impeachment should not be our priority at this stage and those of us that love this country will really need to talk to ourselves and be more concerned instead of dissipating our energy on issues that will divide us by overheating the polity and creating problems for ourselves.
“Those who are beating the drums now should know that it will come back to them”, Saraki said.

BreakingNews 3/9/14 - Again, Anambra Comes First in WASSCE

[ Masterweb Reports ] - The education reforms embarked upon by Anambra State in the last couple of years has continued to yield results, as schools in the state emerged the overall best in the 2014 West African Senior   School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). A repeat of the feat recorded last year.

The official WAEC result, made available to the media, showed that Anambra State (65.92 per cent), Abia State (58.52 per cent), Edo State (57.82) came topmost.

Nevertheless, eight out of the 36 states in Nigeria recorded a score less than 10%. These states include Adamawa, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi. Others are Gombe, Bauchi and Yobe.
The percentage of the total number of candidates that obtained a minimum of five credits, including English Language and General Mathematics, was 31.21 per cent as against 30.90 per cent, 37.66 per cent  and 36.57 per cent for the 2011, 2012 2013 WASSCE  examinations. This, according to WAEC, implies that the average performance of the candidates in the May/June 2014 WASSCE was lower than that of the 2013.
Commenting on the feat by Anambra State, education experts from and outside the State  t linked it to the  courageous return of schools, hitherto  thought as impossible, to the Missionaries in 2010 by the former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, who thereafter continued to pay the salaries of tutorials and non-tutorials staff as well as provided direct funding to the missionaries that enabled them to rehabilitate the schools and provide learning materials and facilities.
It will be recalled that the  Minister of State for Education, Barr Nyeso Wike predicted what is happening in Anambra State when he visited the State under Governor Obi, during  the launching of the distribution of 25,000 computers,450 nos of 50 KVA generators  and 500 school buses to schools in the State. Commending Obi for investing heavily on education by judicious use of Federal and State monies to rehabilitate schools in the State. He said that  he would advise that Obi's policies be replicated throughout  the country.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Suleman Dikko  had at another event, during  presentation of cheques totaling over One Billion Naira to public and missionary schools for the provision of infrastructure, expressed surprise at the transformation of schools in the State  in the area of  provision of computers, Internet connectivity, provision of sick  bays, libraries, buses, generators, among others and said that with what he witnessed, that Anambra would soon become the leading light in education in the country.
The former Governor could not be reached for his reactions  as he was said to be  away to the USA attending the World Igbo Congress.

BreakingNews 3/9/14 - Obi Calls on Igbos in the Diaspora to Support Jonathan, Denies plots to become the SGF
[ Masterweb Reports ] - The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has called on Igbos in the Diaspora to support President Goodluck Jonathan to be re-elected the President of Nigeria early next year.

Speaking in the USA  on Saturday, during the 2014 World Igbo Congress in Houston, Texas, Obi, who was recognized and presented with an Award for his distinguished and commendable performance in public office, said that for Igbos to get their due in Nigeria, that they should always look at what would benefit the people and not for selfish reasons. "Today, some people said we negotiated wrongly with Jonathan in 2010 just because we moved away from the past practice where people's idea of negotiation ends in nominating their children, relations or cronies for appointment. What we did was to go for those things that will benefit the totality of our people, such as request for an International Airport with full terminal building, the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, the control of some menacing erosion in the geo-political region, the reconstruction of Federal roads in the region, among others", Obi said he was happy that Jonathan is doing all that.

Obi assured that future negotiations will follow the same pattern and called on those still seeking personal benefits to have a re-think.

Further, Obi said that beyond working on those specific projects that were basis for negotiation with President Jonathan in 2010, that  the President's personal approach to issues affecting our people,  just like others, were encouraging. Using INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company as an example, Obi recalled how Jonathan's intervention made him recover the money for his goods wrongly auctioned and how he personally came to commission the company's Nnewi facility and how he has continued to encourage him.

On the rumour that he was plotting to replace Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Obi described the rumour as "very wicked", and said he was still at a loss to discern what those after the rumour hope to gain other than to destroy relationships and present him as somebody desperate for appointment, when the contrary is actually the case. "I have never discussed the issue of SGF with anybody and do not know how people conceived  the story of my plotting to become one. It must be the mechanization of evil minds," Obi said.
Meanwhile, the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu who was alleged to be the Chief  Lobbyist for Obi has denied the report which he said appeared for him totally incomprehensible, malicious and wicked.

Those that attended the conference includes, the Representative of the President and the Minister of Labour, Emeka Wogu, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Ebele Obiano representing her husband and the Governor of Anambra State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, Simon Okeke, Prof Pita Ejiofor, Engr Patrick Obi, Joe-martins Uzodike,  CY Agupugo, among others
